Brachioplasty, commonly known as an arm lift, involves the following procedural steps:
Step 1: Anesthesia - Anesthetic medications are administered for the comfort of the patient during the surgical procedure. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. The doctor normally recommends the best choice for the patient based on individual factors.
Step 2: The incisions - Incision length and pattern depend on the amount and location of excess skin to be removed, as well as the best judgment of the plastic surgeon.
Step 3: Closure of the incisions - The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures, or stitches that can be removed within one or two weeks following the arm lift.
Step 4: The results - The smoother, tighter contours that result from brachioplasty are apparent almost immediately following the procedure, although initial results may be somewhat obscured by swelling and bruising.
Brachioplasty, or an arm lift, is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm.
