Quite frequently three incisions are involved in a
Breast Lift. The first incision is made around the areola. The second runs vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease underneath the breast. The third horizontal incision is made beneath the breast and follows the natural curve of the breast crease. After the excess breast skin has been removed by the surgeon, the nipple and areola are shifted to a higher position. The stretched areola, which is frequent in a sagging breast, can be reduced in size. Skin that was formerly located above the areola is brought down and together beneath it to reshape the breast.
If the patient and the plastic surgeon decide that it is desirable to perform breast enlargement at the same time as a breast lift, an insertion of breast implants is necessary. The surgeon normally reviews the necessary information with the patient and provides the patient with a brochure on breast augmentation.
Mastopexy or breast lift surgery refers to a group of elective surgical operations designed to improve the appearance of the breast. Aging, weight loss, and childbirth can lead to a loss of volume and tone of the breast causing sagging or drooping, also referred to as breast ptosis.
